Day 2: Lake Manyara National park
After your first night in Tanzania, we’ll set off in the morning for Lake Manyara National Park, which is about a one-and-a-half-hour drive from Arusha. We’ll arrive around 10 a.m., and after completing the registration formalities, we’ll begin our exciting game drives. As we explore the park, you’ll witness its rich wildlife and breathtaking scenery.
For lunch, we’ll stop at one of the park’s picnic sites, where you can enjoy a meal surrounded by nature. Afterward, we’ll continue with game drives throughout the afternoon, taking in all that Lake Manyara has to offer.
Day 3: Ngorongoro Conservation Area
Early in the morning, if the children are excited or if any of you wish, you can embark on an early game drive in Lake Manyara National Park. Afterward, we’ll return to the lodge or tented camp for a hearty breakfast. Once everyone is refreshed, we’ll set off towards Karatu or, depending on your accommodation choice, head inside the Ngorongoro Conservation Area (note that extra conservation fees apply).
Upon arrival and after lunch, you’ll have some time to unwind at the lodge. You can choose to relax, or if you’re up for more adventure, go on a nature walk guided by a ranger or a Maasai warrior through the forests of the Ngorongoro Highlands. If you’re staying at Ngorongoro Farm House, you might enjoy a dip in the swimming pool or take a guided walk around the beautiful coffee plantation.
Dinner and overnight will be at the lodge, where you can settle in and prepare for the next day’s adventures.
Day 4: Ngorongoro Crater
No African family safari is complete without a visit to the Ngorongoro Crater, the world’s largest unbroken caldera and the largest natural zoo. The Ngorongoro Crater is unmatched in its concentration of wildlife, making it a must-see destination.
On this day, you’ll spend your time exploring this eighth wonder of the world, where a picnic lunch will be served by the hippo pool. With a bit of luck, you might even spot all of the Big Five in just one day!
Day 5: Olduvai Gorge
After breakfast at the lodge, we’ll set out for an exciting journey to Olduvai Gorge. But first, if you wish, we can make a brief stop at a Maasai village, where you’ll have the chance to experience the rich culture and traditions of the Maasai people.
Olduvai Gorge is a significant archaeological site where Louis and Mary Leakey discovered the hominid remains of Australopithecus Boisei. This discovery was pivotal in developing the theory of evolution and led to the understanding that Africa is the cradle of mankind.
After exploring Olduvai Gorge, we’ll continue our journey to Serengeti National Park, entering through Naabi Hill Gate. The adventure doesn’t stop there; we’ll spend the afternoon on game drives, immersing ourselves in the incredible wildlife of the Serengeti.
Day 6: Serengeti National Park Full Day
On this day, you have the option to start with a very early morning game drive, experiencing the Serengeti as it comes to life at dawn. Afterward, you’ll return to the lodge or tented camp for a hearty breakfast.
Following breakfast, the day is yours to explore the vast Serengeti plains with more game drives if you wish. Whether you choose to spend the whole day out on safari or opt for a morning game drive followed by a relaxing afternoon, the choice is yours. If you’re staying at Serengeti Sopa Lodge, the kids might enjoy cooling off with a refreshing dip in the swimming pool under the warm African sun.
Day 7: Serengeti To Zanzibar
After breakfast, you’ll check out of your lodge or camp and embark on a scenic drive to the Seronera Airstrip, enjoying game drives along the way. Once at Seronera, you’ll board your flight to the beautiful Zanzibar Island.
